Most significantly, knowledge production in this context should be strategically decentred. Strategic decentring requires that we do away with the coordinates that once helped our collective orientation orientation begins with location in relation to specific coordinates, which then results in a specific vision of the world.
The centre does not hold. Colonial knowledge production was centred on Europe and central to modernity. But The Global Turn does not merely assert a postcolonial predicament, or offer a reiteration of the postmodernity argument both cat- egories that are still dialectically defined by the modernity they supersede. Facing complexity and pressure to conform, we may dispense with the need to control literal and metaphorical territory the way we used to. But this compass had been mal- functioning for decades. Yet again circumventing is not forsaking, and traditional scholarly disciplines are still the very basis for accumulating knowl- edge. One could craft multidisciplinary ways of observing reality, but the disci- plines were still the building blocks of knowledge.
