The developer has created a walkthrough in a black and white artistic style. The narrative is broken into many fragments, and the gameplay adds logical puzzles and challenges to interact with the environment and objects.
Sound design, graphics and other visuals create a horror atmosphere. The central character will encounter monsters and ghosts once he gets to the house where he used to live.
The walkthrough begins with a call, which the protagonist takes. It forces him to return to a home he hasn't been in in years. Gameplay focuses on solving puzzles and interacting with the environment.
As they progress and solve problems, the gamer will receive clues related to the intertwined memories. The main mission is to find out the truth and what happened to the main character's father. The third-person approach, the simple mechanics and the cel-shaded aesthetic do nothing to push the boat out in terms of performance but the sound quality, the tense atmosphere and the Tim Burton style art direction all culminate to make this game look interesting, at least at face value.
The art direction deserves some praise as well. Although the visuals are by no means spectacular. In fact, for the time of release they were rather safe in terms of details.
However, the environments are initially rather intriguing and really make the player feel part of the adventure. It is a shame though that as the game progresses that these assets are recycled to pad out events. One thing a licenced game needs to be is accessible. The camera angles are enough to give you motion sickness, the lock-on system is extremely hard to use and there are a series of quick-time events that are ridiculously harsh, even for an adult player with reasonable reaction times.
The enemies are repetitive and offer little in terms of challenge to defeat. Once you work out how to beat one, you can beat them all. The one aspect of this game that truly is up there with the best games of the time is the sound quality. The teenage DJ is observing his neighbor Nebbercracker on the other side of their street in the suburb that destroys tricycles of children that trespass his lawn. When DJ's parents travel on the eve of Halloween and the abusive nanny Zee stays with him, he calls his clumsy best friend Chowder to play basketball.
But when the ball falls in Nebbercracker's lawn, the old man has a siege, and sooner they find that the house is a monster. Later the boys rescue the smart Jenny from the house and the trio unsuccessfully tries to convince the babysitter, her boyfriend Bones and two police officers that the haunted house is a monster, but nobody believes on them.
The teenagers ask their videogame addicted acquaintance Skull how to destroy the house, and they disclose its secret on the Halloween night.
There Goes The Neighborhood. This Summer Cross Over to the Other Side Of the Street. A living, breathing, nightmare of a house! Sulley is a giant furry blue friendly and sweet monster with horns and purple spots. Even though he excels at scaring children, he is kind hearted and thoughtful by nature.
Sulley is relatively laid-back, and has a relaxed and on going happy personality. Mike is a green monster with a ball-shaped body, a single big eyeball, and skinny arms and legs.
